2018 DISTINCTION IN MENTORSHIP AWARDS

On November 8h, 2018 the construction trades in New Brunswick celebrated their long history of on-the-job mentorship and apprentice development at the NB-MAP 4th Annual Distinction in Mentorship Awards Gala at the Lily Lake Pavilion in Saint John, NB.

This annual event brings special attention to the skilled tradespeople who dedicate each workday not only to producing high quality work safely, but also to mentoring, guiding and teaching the next generation of the construction workforce, their apprentices.

THE 2018 DISTINCTION IN MENTORSHIP AWARDS WINNERS

CORPORATE CHAMPION, OVER 100 EMPLOYEES: LORNEVILLE

The NB-MAP Corporate Champion sets the standard for industry excellence in workplace teaching and learning. Lorneville is recognized for it's dedication to on-the-job learning, as demonstrated by their well resourced and structured mentorship program and ongoing partnership with NB-MAP.

MASTER MENTOR: MARCO DOIRON, TRAINING COORDINATOR WITH IRONWORKERS LOCAL 842

The Master Mentor embodies the qualities of effective workplace mentors everyday, and goes above and beyond in their dedication to apprentice development. With more than two decades of experience as a skilled tradesperson, he brings a passion to the trade that is infectious. He truly understands the importance of mentoring and believes effectively training the next generation of apprentices is necessary to ensure the continued success of this trade.

OUTSTANDING APPRENTICE: SHELDON PATTERSON, BOILERMAKER APPRENTICE WITH BOILERMAKERS LOCAL 73/ JACOBS INDUSTRIAL

The Outstanding Apprentice consistently demonstrates the five A's of apprenticeship: Attitude, Aptitude, Attendance, Ask questions, & Advocate. Sheldon Patterson is the first NBTAP participant to earn a Red Seal. The Boilermakers Local 73 accepted Sheldon as an official apprentice upon graduation from high school after completing three years of pre-apprenticeship with Jacobs Industrial Services at the Irving Oil Refinery. He is the youngest person in recent years to become a Red Seal Construction Boilermaker at 21 years old. Sheldon is currently employed with Jacobs and is considered honest, dedicated and an overall great team player with good work ethics.
