Spotlight On Carrie Carmell Long

This month’s spotlight features Carrie Carmell Long, a block 3 apprentice auto body and collision technician with Dana’s Collision Center in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Carrie grew up with a love for cars but did not necessarily want to become a mechanic. Instead she chose to pursue an apprenticable red seal trade which allows her to restore the esthetics of a vehicle making it look new again. She enrolled in the pre-employment program through East Coast Trades College and is now progressing through block training at the NBCC Saint John campus.

Like many tradeswomen, Carrie is no stranger to the stereotypes females in non-traditional skilled trades often face however her advice is to “not worry about what other people think and to do whatever makes you happy!” There are endless possibilities within the trades and Carrie’s story highlights the ability to focus on exactly what makes you happy while growing your potential within the industry.

Carrie had the opportunity to compete in two national Skills Canada competitions bringing home silver in Alberta (2018) and bronze in Nova Scotia (2019) for car painting. She had a fantastic time representing New Brunswick in a trade she is truly passionate about and would highly recommend the opportunity to other apprentices.

We are extremely proud of Carrie, her dedication to her chosen trade and everything she has accomplished. We look forward to following along with her journey as an auto body and collision technician!
